David Guetta Regains Throne as World’s No.1 DJ: Highlights from DJ Mag’s 30th Anniversary Top 100 DJs Poll

Date:

David Guetta has been crowned The World’s No.1 DJ as DJ Mag revealed the results of the 30th anniversary edition of their iconic Top 100 DJs poll. The French DJ and producer returns to the No.1 spot for the fourth time, more than a decade after he was first crowned The World’s No.1 DJ in 2011.

In a spectacular turn of events, David Guetta has reclaimed his title as The World’s No.1 DJ in DJ Mag’s 30th-anniversary edition of the iconic Top 100 DJs poll. This marks Guetta’s fourth triumph, more than a decade after his initial coronation in 2011, surpassing even his close friend and mentee, Martin Garrix, who topped the 2022 poll. With four wins each, they stand second only to Dutchman Armin van Buuren, who has claimed the No.1 spot five times.

Expressing his joy, David Guetta stated, “It’s incredible! It’s wonderful! It’s great because I feel like every time I’m on the top of the Top 100 DJs, it’s for a different reason.” Guetta’s ability to straddle diverse music scenes has solidified his reign as the king of dance music, effortlessly moving between radio-realms and the underground.

Guetta’s international success began in 2001 with ‘Just A Little More Love,’ and in the past year alone, he collaborated with a myriad of artists, solidifying his position as the 4th largest streaming artist worldwide on Spotify in 2023. The awards were announced during a broadcast event, hosted by BBC Radio One’s Arielle Free from The Standard, Ibiza, featuring an iconic performance by David Guetta from an Ibiza cliff top.

The Top 100 DJs poll is not only a celebration of electronic music but also a philanthropic effort, supporting UNICEF in raising funds to protect childhoods globally. Viewers were encouraged to contribute during the awards show.

Exploring the 2023 rankings, non-movers Alok and Armin Van Buuren maintained their positions in the top five. Notable changes include Peggy Gou, who leaped 15 spots to ninth place, becoming the highest-placing woman in the main poll since 2000. House and techno genres performed exceptionally well, with Charlotte de Witte voted The World’s No.1 Techno DJ for the fourth consecutive year.

The global influence of the poll is evident, with house and techno artists like FISHER, GORDO, Black Coffee, and Carl Cox making significant moves. Special recognition went to Carl Cox for receiving an Outstanding Contribution award as the only DJ ranked in every poll’s 30-year history.

Fred again.. is crowned as this year’s Highest New Entry, while The Martinez Brothers earned the Highest Climber award. Other notable mentions include Deborah De Luca, Nora En Pure, Adam Beyer, Jamie Jones, Solomun, Kölsch, James Hype, and Indira Paganotto, a Spanish psy-trance/hard techno champion debuting at No.97.

DJ Mag’s China voting app played a crucial role, reflecting the increased participation from Chinese fans. New entries include Aryue, KAKA, Lizzy Wang, Maddix, and Le Shuuk, with re-entries by Mike Williams and Deorro.
